OLYMPIA NOW ACCREDITED TO ISO9001:2015!
Another First! Olympia is now the first paint manufacturer to be accredited with the internationally-recognised ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management Certification!
The ISO9001:2015 Quality Management System (QMS) directs and measures how we conduct business, how we interact with our customers, the quality consistency of product we produce, and how we endeavour, through a system of risk analysis, and continuous improvement, to consistently deliver an exceptional experience to our customers.
Our business has been managed under the ISO 9001 QMS since 2003, when we first received our ISO 9001:2000 certification. We have subsequently been accredited with ALL versions of the system.
The certification to ISO 9001:2015 in August this year, is the first for the South African paint industry, and is significant in that this is achieved in our 20th year of being in business.
Following a rigorous auditing process, which was conducted by SACAS, a SANAS accredited auditing company, our QMS was found to be compliant in terms of the requirements of the Standard, with no findings to report. The conclusion is that quality is entrenched at Olympia! According to Alton Arendse from Frontline Consultants, the team at Olympia views their QMS as a key component of ensuring quality customer-centric outputs. “These guys clearly place high value on quality products and customer service; it was such a pleasure to work with them to obtain their ISO 9001:2015 Certification, he said. He further goes on to say that no audit findings were recorded, which is a first (and yet another first for Olympia!) for any company which underwent a transition audit from ISO 9001:2008 to ISO 9001:2015. “Not only was this a transition audit, but a recertification audit as well, which makes the lack of findings all the more outstanding”, he said.

DRIVING THE QMS
At the core of an effective QMS in any organisation is total staff commitment across all tiers. Our representative for Quality, Robert Willoughby, who is also our technical Sales Executive, is the manager responsible for driving quality control throughout the business. Robert has had this responsibility since Olympia first implemented ISO standards.
Robert’s journey at Olympia Paints started in November 1998, and he has contributed meaningfully to Olympia’s growth and development for the past for 20 years. Apart from being an adept salesperson, he is skilled at providing customers with technical guidance and advice as it relates to paint systems and application. He cites one of his career highlights as representing Olympia Paints on a popular ETV charity reality show, called ‘Let’s Fix It’, which was hosted by Soli Philander, and which Olympia sponsored.
Robert is assisted by our ISO Administrator, Ayabonga Mbana. Aya, as she is affectionately known to us, is responsible for ensuring that the QMS documentation is up-to-date, that Customer Surveys are effectively analysed, and that projected outcomes through the Management review process is achieved.

OUR STAFF RECEIVE PAINT TECHNOLOGY TRAINING
The on-going learning and development of our team is key to Olympia’s success; an empowered staff is more efficiently able to drive the principles of our QMS. It is for this reason that members of our team over the last three Saturdays of September completed a course in paint technology. This learning intervention aims to create a solid foundational knowledge of surface coatings technology so that we are able to keep abreast of the latest technological advances, and are able to adapt quickly in order to meet market demand.
