If you’re stuck on choosing a new colour scheme for your home, start by evaluating the colour relationships as they appear on the colour wheel. The colour wheel displays an arrangement of colours, starting with red, yellow, and blue – being the primaries. All other colours are produced from mixing these primaries in varying ratios; shades are produced by adding white or black to colour mixes.

Colours have a wonderful way of impacting us and our reactions or responses in a space.

This ‘Colour Temperature’ often refers to warm and cool colours.

WARM COLOURS tend to advance toward you, giving an impression of closeness and comfort. Such colours are found at the ‘RED’ end of the spectrum, with ‘REDS’ being the warmest. COOL COLOURS tend to recede away from you, giving an impression of coolness and spaciousness. Such colours are found at the ‘BLUE’ end of the spectrum.

STAFF PROFILE: AYABONGA MBANA

This month’s paint splash is on Ayabonga Mbana

Ayabonga started working for Olympia Paints in October 2015 as the receptionist. At the time she had neither experience nor knowledge of the building or paint industries, and told her interviewer that she was always willing to learn and that she would do her best in that position.

In January 2017 she became part of the sales team as an internal sales consultant and recalls the one highlight that stands above any other in 2016/7.

She received an email from the CEO of Lesole Investments, Mr Maholobela, who was searching for the best products and supplier for their Sanlam Blue Ladder Schools’ Project; the project would run in the Western Cape, Gauteng and KwaZulu Natal. “I remember I would carry paint samples home for the client, bring them back for panels and take the panels to the client, because at Olympia we strive for the highest level of service excellence”, she says.

After two weeks Mr Maholobela called to tell me that the samples had been approved and that I should be expecting calls from other contractors for orders. The orders came in and the project concluded at the end of 2017. “Being part of this project from inception to completion was a huge accomplishment for me personally. We work together closely as a team at Olympia, and are able to achieve great outcomes as a result!”

Ayabonga is currently the ISO Administrator; her role involves supporting the QMR with the implementation and maintenance of the Quality Management System in preparation for the certification to ISO 900:2015. My primary responsibility is to ensure that all preparations required for the audit are completed, and that all the relevant documentation is completed and submitted in order to ensure that no findings are recorded.

PROJECT UPDATE

Here our Akrodek Pure Acrylic Waterfproofing Coating is being used for a social housing project by Nozomi Developers in Malibu Village in Blue Downs in the Cape.

Here our Akrosheen is being used for exteriors and our Akrosilk for the interiors of these upmarket residential developments in Steyn City in Gauteng.

The Cape Town Train Station Deck underwent a refurbishment in recent weeks to ensure convenience and user-friendliness of the space for the many commuters who use the deck on a daily basis. We supplied our Akrosheen, Akrogloss, and Nucover paint products to R&Z Paint Contractors
