COLOUR YOUR HOME OFFICE WITH OUR PREMIUM-QUALITY INTERIOR PAINTS

If the Covid pandemic has taught us anything, it’s that working from home is here to stay.

We spend on average one-third of our daily lives at work, so creating a home office environment which is conducive to comfort and productivity is absolutely essential.

Simply by employing the clever use of lighting, and bespoke colours on your walls, you can tailor-make your home office to create an enabling work environment.

At this stage it might be prudent to investigate those factors which are important to consider in creating a productive workspace at home:

Do an assessment of the space you have available for a home office

Your office should be removed as far as possible from other household activities, ideally by a door that closes out noise and other distractions. So, you may want to consider utilising an unused spare room or a section of a garage. A folding screen, stationery cupboard, or bookcase can help create a dedicated work area if you are not able to utilise an entire room. Even a small corner with a desk can create an atmosphere.

Define your workspace needs

Less is more! Whether your space is limited, or you have lots to play with, uncluttered is always best, and contributes to a healthy working environment. Office basics such as a desk or other surface for your laptop; a comfortable office chair; and a space for files or reference materials should be all you need. Scanners and printers are also necessities in most home offices.

Consider décor that makes your workspace as inviting as possible

The more pleasant and attractive your home office space, the more you will enjoy the time you spend there, which will translate to increased productivity. If possible, position your workspace in a way that it can get the most natural light from a nearby window.

The colour scheme of your space is one of the most direct and cost-effective ways of developing your office at home. Consider the following:

The mood you want to create

Is a cozy, sophisticated office, with warmer, darker colours the look you are going for? Or do you prefer something which feels livelier and more creative?

Colour plays such an important role in creating the feel of a room or workspace, that knowing what kind of mood you want to create will assist in narrowing down your colour choices.

Blues such as our Nautical Blue (AP80-4) and Greens such as our Green Willow (AP64-4), can be very calming, and often used to foster an environment of focus and productivity.

However, if you want to maintain high energy, you might choose something lighter; Yellows (see our Sassy Yellow, AP105-4) is a fun and versatile colour that is said to boost creativity, energy, and focus.

Are you changing your furniture too?

If you are changing out some furniture in addition to painting, it might help you to start with the selection of your pieces of furniture. If you find a piece of office furniture that you absolutely have to have, you can build your colour scheme around this feature or key item.

The selection of your paint colour can also, of course, be done based on your existing furniture.

Be careful with small office spaces

Using dark colours in small spaces can make your work area feel awkward and constricted, particularly if there’s not sufficient natural light. Off-whites (AP1-1 – AP22-6), crisp whites (AP15-1 – AP22-6), silvers and light greys (AP23-1 – AP57-6) can make your home office feel open and inviting with the right lighting. You can also possibly get away with soft greens and yellows.

Test different colours on the walls

At Olympia Paints we supply our paints in sample sizes so that you are able to request test containers of the paints which you think might look good in your office. You are able to paint strips of your selected colours on the walls to imagine how they would look for the entire room.
